About the Society
We are the county bird society for Essex and we promote for the benefit of the public, conservation, education, knowledge and protection in relation to wild birds within Essex and much of N.E. London.
Today the society has over 500 members from professional ornithologists, enthusiastic amateurs to those with just a passing interest in birdwatching. Whatever your level of experience you will find the activities and events organised by the society offer something for everyone.
EBwS records the bird life in the Watsonian vice counties of North Essex and South Essex. These approximate to the modern county of Essex plus Greater London east of the river Lea.
What We Do
We hold monthly evening Indoor Meetings, in Chelmsford with guest Speakers covering a wide range of very interesting subjects, on the first Friday of the month between September and April.
We operate friendly Outdoor Field Trip Meetings (by luxury fully air conditioned coach and by private car) to venues in the County, East Anglia, South-East England and beyond, from September through to June.
Each year the society undertakes to collect and collate records of sightings, ringing reports and results of surveys which contribute towards the publication of the award winning annual Essex Bird Report.
