Carousel C - EBwS Events

Activities and Events

EventsThe EBwS organises a variety of indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year as well as holding Conferences every two years. We are also pleased to help with Surveys when requested. For the past two years we have also organised a Big County Birdwatch in the Autumn with a challenge of seeing as many species of Birds in Essex over the course of one weekend. These events have proved extremely popular.

At the moment due to COVID-19 we have suspended both indoor meetings and field trips although we have now created a Youtube channel where and  are holding our first virtual meeting:

Indoor Meetings

The Society holds monthly indoor meetings for most of the year. Usually these are organised for the first Friday of each month. They are typically illustrated talks featuring a prominent local or national speaker.

Indoor meeting start at 20:00 at the Quaker Meeting House, 82 Rainsford Road, Chelmsford CM1 2QL.

Entrance for Members is £3.00, Non-members £4.00, charged on the door. Refreshments served during interval. Meetings start at 20:00 unless stated otherwise (i.e. AGM in March - 19:30). ‘Free’ car parking on site or one minute away next to the County Hotel.

Field Trips

The Society organises two kinds of field trips, local trips where members arrange their own transport to meet at the venue and join a communal outing and coach trips to locations further afield. For more details and to reserve coach seats, phone Gerry Johnson on 07775 663166 (after 19:00).

All Coach trips commence from Trinity Church (opposite the County Hotel) at 07:15 for 07:30, unless stated otherwise, with pick-ups at Shenfield High School at 07:45 and Oak P.H. Grays at 08:00 or Swan P.H. Stanway at 08:00, depending on the direction on the day. There is a large ’free‘ car park next to County Hotel in Chelmsford.

Coach trips cost £20.00-£22.00 each, subject to destination. Accompanied juniors travel ‘free’. An entrance charge applies to some venues and reserves for non-members of RSPB, WWT, Wildlife Trusts, etc. To avoid disappointing anyone on a waiting list, non-attended coach bookings, without 24hrs cancellation notice, will incur the full trip cost.

For non-coach trips, meet at the venue car park at 09:00.
