The Essex Birdwatching Society currently has two vacant positions on the executive committee and we're appealing to our members to see if you can help.
The available positions are as follows:
Indoor Meetings Secretary (IMS)
Our calendar of indoor and online meetings for the 2023-24 season has been arranged by our current IMS Sue Watts. However, Sue has kindly volunteered to become Society Treasurer from January 2024 and we're looking for a new volunteer to fill the role of IMS.
Our indoor and online meetings usually run from September through to April, and the IMS is responsible for finding speakers to give a variety of talks during this period. Choice of subject matter will be up to you, but in the past has ranged from birding trips abroad to local birdwatching site histories, bird ringing and tagging, birdsong, photography hints and tips and much more. The indoor talks take place in Chelmsford on the first Friday of the month, but if a speaker lives further away we can host the talk online via YouTube & Zoom.
Sue will be available for support and advice as you settle into your new role, as will the rest of the committee members.
Youth Representative (YR)
We're looking to create this new position on the committee, and we're appealing for help from one of our younger members.
We want to engage with the next generation of birders, and how we do this will be very much up to you! We'll listen to any ideas that you have, whether they involve social media channels, YouTube, targeted events, your own section in the journal or anything else you can think of.
Being a brand new position, this is an exciting opportunity for someone to come on board with the rest of the team to help shape the future of the Society.
Committee meetings take place every two months via Zoom, where you'll be able to share your thoughts and ideas on the current and future direction of the Society. The committee is a really good team - we're all volunteers and everyone's time is truly valued and appreciated, with all ideas considered and discussed.
